Family Engagement and Leadership Programs

Parents are their child’s first and most important teacher. Los Niños Primero’s Family Program is built on three essential pillars: Education, Well-Being, and Leadership. Together, these pillars form a comprehensive framework that equips parents and caregivers with the knowledge, confidence, and skills to support their children’s educational success and to thrive as engaged members of their school and community.

These programs are available to parents of children and/or youth volunteers enrolled in Los Niños Primero.

Leadership

Fostering Family Leaders Program

Empower your leadership today

Since 2017, Los Niños Primero and the United Way of Greater Atlanta have partnered through the Fostering Family Leaders Program to strengthen family leadership.

Over 10 sessions, parents develop leadership, parenting, and social-emotional support skills, while discovering their strengths and building their confidence to make a positive impact in their homes, schools, and communities.

Since its launch in 2017, we have graduated more than 100 parents from the Fostering Family Leaders Program.

MALDEF: School-Family Partnership Program

This program gives parents the knowledge to speak up, ask questions, and advocate for what their child needs in public school.

In partnership with MALDEF (Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund), a Latino civil rights organization founded in 1968.

Parent Coach Program

Connects and strengthens Latino families through leadership and mutual support.

Since 2015, Los Niños Primero has empowered families through its Parent Coach Program, an initiative that has brought together more than 150 parent leaders committed to supporting and guiding other Latino families.

Each Parent Coach works with 10 to 17 families a year, providing guidance, support, and motivation as they progress through academic and extracurricular programs. More than just a mentoring program, this initiative creates a network of trust, leadership, and mutual support that strengthens the sense of community and helps families grow together.

Through the Parent Coach Program, participants:

• Foster a strong and supportive communication network between Los Niños Primero and enrolled families.
• Develop essential leadership skills to guide and inspire other parents.
• Encourage greater parental involvement, building a culture of active engagement and shared responsibility within the community.
• Receive valuable training in skills such as customer service, positive communication, and organizational management, with tools to succeed both within and beyond the program.

A space to grow, connect, and lead through reading.

It is a space where mothers read and discuss books related to leadership, well-being, and lifestyle topics.

Accessible Family Counseling

Expert and affordable therapy for the well-being of your entire family.

Partnership with Rosa María Camarillo, a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 20 years of experience working with children and families, to offer accessible and affordable therapy services.

Cognitive Compassion Training

Strengthening well-being and mental health.

Program aimed at strengthening emotional well-being and mental health through the development of compassion and resilience skills.

Triple P – Positive Parenting Program

Supportive environments to heal, guide, and strengthen children’s future.

This program seeks to create supportive family environments and prevent, as well as treat, emotional and behavioral problems in children and adolescents.

Education

Summer educational training

At Los Niños Primero, the family’s role is fundamental to our mission. To ensure holistic growth, we require parents to actively attend at least four of the seven sessions offered during our Summer Educational Program.

These classes are a space for learning and exchange designed to equip families with key tools on vital topics such as:
Academic Success: Understanding the school system and Los Niños Primero programs.
Well-being and Health: New educational trends and the Healthy Cooking for Every Body program from Open Hands Atlanta.
Positive Parenting: Practical tools for understanding and guiding children’s behavior.

Latino Youth Readiness and Information for College (LYRIC)

We work together to create a path to college.

LYRIC is a collaborative program that provides free support to Latino families in planning their children’s post-secondary education. Through personalized resources and support throughout the school year, we help parents of high school students actively participate in the college process, giving them the confidence and tools to build a path to higher education together.

Parents explore vital topics, including key issues on how to navigate the path to college:

• Preparing for the school year
• Getting involved in clubs and extracurricular activities
• The school calendar
• Graduation requirements
• Talking to our children about values ​​and mental health
• Final exam dates
• Credit recovery

Aprendemos Juntos (Learning Together) – Parents

Empowering families to support learning at home.

For elementary school students and their parents.
Twice a week, September – May.

Aprendemos Juntos (Learning Together) is a Spanish-language program that fosters collaboration among parents, children, and educators, strengthening the connection between home and school. Through sessions led by a certified educator, families acquire tools and strategies to actively support their children’s learning and academic success.
