Extracurricular

Growth happens outside the classroom too. Our extracurricular programs give children and youth space to build confidence, connection, and skill, through mentorship, sports, and hands-on experiences that round out everything they’re learning at school.

Art and Culture

At Los Niños Primero, we believe in the transformative power of the arts. Through art, music, theater, and dance programs, children explore their creativity, strengthen their cultural identity, and foster their growth, communication, motor skills, discipline, language development, and social interaction.

Participation is only for children who have previously participated in a Los Niños Primero Early Education program.

Orchestra and Choir

For children aged 5 and up: Weekly from September to May

Our Orchestra and Choir program invites children to discover the power of music through creative and enriching experiences. As they explore instruments, singing, and teamwork, they develop confidence, concentration, time management, emotional expression, and a deeper connection to their creativity and cultural identity through the universal language of music.

And with the guidance of classical instructor Isabel Mester, their passion for musical notes ignites as they learn about instruments such as ukuleles, xylophones, keyboards, and recorders.

Dance

For children aged 6 to 12

Our dance program invites children to express themselves through movement while exploring styles such as folk, flamenco, and hip-hop under the expert guidance of the group Los de Ida y Vuelta. In each class, they strengthen their confidence, promote their physical well-being, and celebrate their cultural roots as they learn, create, and shine in every performance, proudly sharing their progress and talent.

Creciendo Juntas

Creciendo Juntas pairs our girl youth volunteers with younger girl students in a Big Sister, Little Sister relationship built on trust and consistency. Twice a month, pairs come together for workshops on education, the arts, and mental wellness, along with free field trips and hands-on activities. It’s a space for girls to be mentored by someone just a few years ahead of them, and to see, up close, what their own future could look like. This program is funded by the Atlanta Women’s Foundation All Girls Forward: Girls Empowerment Program Grant.

Sports

Sports help children grow physically and emotionally, strengthening their confidence, discipline, love of healthy living, teamwork, and well-being on and off the field.

Soccer Academy

For children ages 5 to 12

Fridays | 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Locations: Sandy Springs, Mount Vernon School Lower Campus, and Hapeville.

Led by Coach Ricardo Montoya, a USSF licensed coach with more than 20 years of experience, including professional play in Costa Rica and coaching in El Salvador and the United States, our Soccer Academy gives children ages 5 to 12 a place to learn the game and build teamwork skills that carry off the field. Through our partnership with Kids with Goals, Hapeville students can now join a local soccer league, with Los Niños Primero covering the full cost of registration.

The academy offers the following sessions:
For children ages 5 to 6: Participate in fun parent-child activities and friendly tournaments.

For children ages 7 to 12: Develop fundamental soccer skills in structured practice sessions.

Schedule: Fridays from 6 to 8 p.m.

Swimming

For children aged 4 and up

Thanks to our partnership with Goldfish Swim School and the support of the city of Sandy Springs, our students develop an essential life skill: swimming. Through guided lessons and a safe environment, they strengthen their confidence, coordination, motor skills, and water safety—a safe, fun, and enriching learning experience.

Karate

Ages: 3-5 years and 6-12 years.
Location: Sandy Springs.
In partnership with Movement Martial Arts.

Los Niños Primero is proud to offer a karate program that strengthens discipline, concentration, and self-confidence, both on and off the mat.

Under the expert guidance of Sensei Tomás Báez, students learn fundamental karate techniques in a structured and supportive environment that fosters respect, perseverance, and physical fitness. Tomás Báez is a third-degree black belt in American Karate and has over 21 years of experience as an instructor.

In addition to teaching self-defense, this program strengthens coordination, concentration, and self-control, providing students with tools they can apply to all aspects of their lives.

For more information about these programs, please contact our Extracurricular Programs Coordinator, Vasthi Reyes.

Funding for these programs is provided in part by the Fulton County Board of Commissioners, under the guidance of the Fulton County Department of Community Development and the City of Sandy Springs.
